On December 18, our 4 board directors and 20 volunteers came together to deliver the Christmas flowers and indoor plants to 150 senior families’ homes ( 200 seniors) in Markham, Scarborough and Richmond Hill. Some volunteers brought their husbands and children to deliver those flowers and plants to the seniors to encourage them to participate in our indoor gardening workshops. In our senior group, the oldest one is 96 years old, and the youngest is over 65 years old. Many of them live alone or live with their couples, and some of them are with disabilities. The purpose is to support our seniors to stay safe, healthy and active. This project is funded by the government of Ontario.
It looked like a simple job, but our volunteers have worked hard to prepare ahead including registration, purchasing the flowers and plants, re-transplanting, packaging and distributing. Some volunteers have been helping this event in the past week to allocate lists, design greeting cards, and go to many shops to purchase and package flowers. This allowed the event to proceed smoothly.
