CEFS Celebrates Canada Day with a Successful Event
On June 26, 2024, the CEFS Centre hosted a vibrant and successful Canada Day celebration, bringing together residents for a day filled with joy, culture, and community spirit. Supported by the Service Canada NHSP program, the event was a testament to CEFS’s ongoing role in fostering community engagement and promoting multiculturalism.
In the early morning, our dedicated community members arrived with enthusiasm, decorating the venue with banners and carefully arranging tables and chairs. Their hard work and dedication ensured the smooth running of the event and set the stage for a festive day, underscoring their integral role in the celebration.
One of the event’s highlights was the calligraphy display created by our senior members from Scarborough. While the pieces may not have been flawless, the participants’ passion and commitment to their art shone through. This exhibit provided not only a platform for the seniors to display their talents but also enhanced the cultural atmosphere of the celebration.
Volunteers bustled around the venue, offering refreshments to keep participants cool and comfortable on a warm summer day. In a thoughtful gesture, CEFS arranged transportation for members who lived farther away, ensuring everyone could attend the celebration.

In keeping with the Canada Day spirit, organizers included an engaging educational session, sharing interesting facts about Canada’s history and culture. This captivated the audience, with many community members enthusiastically participating in discussions and asking questions. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the more profound understanding of Canada they gained from the event, feeling intellectually stimulated and engaged.
The celebration peaked when everyone, united in spirit, came together to sing the Canadian national anthem. Their voices, full of pride and emotion, expressed their love and best wishes for Canada. The event strengthened community bonds and created lasting memories for all involved, fostering a sense of togetherness and unity.
Canada, founded on July 1, 1867, celebrates its 157th anniversary. Known for its stunning natural beauty—from majestic mountains to pristine lakes and vast forests—Canada’s landscapes are truly awe-inspiring. The vibrant fall foliage, especially the iconic maple leaves, paints the country in warm, fiery hues, a fitting symbol for the Canadian flag, featuring the maple leaf since 1965.
As a bilingual nation, Canada embraces its English and French heritage, which is reflected in its national symbols. The coat of arms, adorned with the golden lion of England and the fleur-de-lis of France, represents the country’s cultural diversity and historical roots. The motto “a mari usque ad mare,” meaning “from sea to sea,” embodies the vastness of Canada’s land, from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
As this Canada Day celebration concluded, it honored the nation’s rich history and highlighted the unique connection among community members. Together, they expressed their hope for Canada’s continued success and shared happiness as part of this diverse and welcoming country.
