Canada’s winters are becoming noticeably warmer. December, once marked by snow and chilly air, now often feels like spring, with gentle rain replacing snowflakes. This year, the upcoming Christmas is expected to be another “green Christmas.”

However, the warmth of the season extends beyond the weather. It is reflected in the heartfelt

contributions of CEFS Centre members, who bring compassion and generosity to the community. This spirit of giving was exemplified at the second annual Christmas Fundraiser of the CEFS Centre, which was held as planned and drew enthusiastic participation from numerous community members.

This year’s Christmas fundraiser occurred at the Fortune Villa Restaurant, the same venue as last year. However, the number of attendees grew significantly, highlighting the increasing influence and unity of the CEFS Centre. More members gathered in the festive atmosphere, each contributing meaningfully to support the community.

The event received widespread recognition and support from participants, who embodied the CEFS philosophy of “helping others, achieving oneself.” Together, their efforts formed a powerful current of generosity and goodwill.

The luncheon began with the classic Christmas tune “We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” filling the banquet hall, setting the tone for the joyous occasion. Executive Director Susan Li

delivered the opening remarks, expressing her gratitude to the attendees and extending warm holiday wishes.

Susan shared the inspiring journey of the CEFS Centre’s development. She emphasised that all donations from the event would go toward the centre’s daily operations, primarily covering rent expenses. She expressed confidence in the fundraiser’s success, noting that the contributions would ensure the continued delivery of the CEFS Centre’s wide range of services.

Establishing permanent office space has been pivotal for the CEFS Centre’s growth, providing a stable foundation for delivering professional, comprehensive, and systematic services. Since securing this

space, the centre has expanded its offerings to include vibrant senior activities, parent-child programs for women and children, seasonal camps for youth, and valuable volunteer opportunities for young adults.

These programs not only support new immigrants but also assist vulnerable groups in the community. The CEFS Centre’s diverse and impactful services have earned high praise and recognition from local government officials, a testament to the dedication of its staff and volunteers. This acknowledgement is a significant encouragement for all members who contribute to the centre’s success.

During the event, attendees gathered around six large round tables—symbols of completeness and good fortune—to share greetings, encouragement, joy, and blessings. The room was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the warmth of community. It was a heartwarming scene like a ray of sunshine breaking through the winter cold to illuminate every corner and warm every heart.

In her concluding remarks, Susan expressed heartfelt thanks to all who participated:

“Each member’s support and participation are the driving forces behind the CEFS Centre’s growth.

Whether through donations, material contributions, or offering time and energy, every effort lays the foundation for the community’s future. Thanks to everyone’s enthusiastic support, the CEFS Centre continues to thrive and expand.”

The spirit of giving and unity this Christmas season shone brightly at the CEFS Centre’s fundraiser, leaving attendees with warm hearts and cherished memories. The event celebrated the holidays and reinforced the enduring values of compassion, collaboration, and hope that define the CEFS Centre community.
